17-year-old girl shot and killed on Brooklyn street

A 17-year-old high school basketball player was fatally shot on a Brooklyn street on Wednesday night, police and sources said.

The teen was hanging out with several people outside 1225 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights when two gunmen approached the group and opened fire just after 6:15 p.m., cops said.

The girl, who sources said was an unintended target, was punched in the face.

She was taken to Brookdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

No other injuries were reported. It was unclear who in the group the shooters were aiming for.

The two suspects, who were wearing dark clothing, fled the scene and no arrests were made.

Six casings were recovered on the spot, according to the police.

The fatal shooting is the latest in this week’s series of bloody violence across the city. Between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, at least 16 people were injured in nine shootings.
