The dates on the schedule weren’t the only numbers officially released by the Cowboys on Thursday. The team also revealed the jersey numbers for the 2022 draft class.
As announced shortly after his pick was made official, first-round pick Tyler Smith will wear number 73, the number worn by legendary offensive lineman Larry Allen in the mid-1990s and early 2000s.
Second-rounder De Williams will wear number 54, a number steeped in Cowboys defensive history. Chuck Howley and Randy White, both Super Bowl MVPs, wore this number for Dallas. Most recently, linebacker Jaylon Smith wore 54 before moving to his collegiate No. 9.

Wide receiver Jalen Tolbert will wear No. 18, a number worn by Randall Cobb in his only season (in 2019) as a Cowboy.
Tight end Jake Ferguson was given the number 48, the number most closely associated with dynasty fullback Daryl “Moose” Johnston.
Tackler Matt Waletzko will wear No. 71, a barely cold number after La’el Collins’ offseason departure.
Cornerback DaRon Bland will wear the No. 30 jersey most recently owned by fellow cornerback Anthony Brown. Brown previously announced a move to No. 3 for the coming year.
Linebacker Damone Clark will wear number 53, a number that was worn on both sides of the ball in Dallas. Center Mark Stepnoski wore No. 53 in Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII, but linebacker Bob Breunig took him to three Pro Bowls and Super Bowl XII years before.
Nose tackle John Ridgeway will wear number 95, a number previously worn by defensive notables such as Chad Hennings and David Irving. Brent Urban wore it last season before being placed in reserve at the end of October; Urban is currently an unrestricted free agent.
Linebacker Devin Harper was assigned the number 50, a number most current Cowboys fans are used to seeing once on Sean Lee.
The large class of undrafted free agents also received numbers. Many are duplicates of current Cowboys veterans at the moment.
Those numbers may change later as more numbers open up due to roster reductions, but they’ll be the ones taking the field Friday when the Cowboys’ rookie minicamp opens.
