Firefighters obtain the agreement to buy a new pump truck | News

ANDERSON — The Anderson Fire Department received approval to purchase a new fire truck at the International Fire Department Instructors Conference.

The Anderson Public Safety Board on Monday approved Fire Chief Dave Cravens’ request to negotiate with suppliers for a new pump truck.

The conference will take place in Indianapolis later this month, and the department has already purchased equipment at the conference.

Cravens said the pump truck will replace a 13-year-old truck at Station 7.

He said the current truck’s transmission had been replaced twice and the engine replaced once.

“We try to get the best price for taxpayers.”

Additionally, the Safety Board approved changes to three Anderson Police Department policies.

The ones that have been changed are Appearance, Recruitment, and Commendations and Rewards.

Chief Mike Lee said the change in appearance will allow officers to dress casually during court appearances.

He said the Recruitment Policy Amendment, passed in 1994, was amended to include email submissions.

Lee said Life Saving was added to the praise and rewards policy. Lee said the department had given a Life Saving Award before, but it was never included in the policy.

The Anderson Fraternal Order of Police approved the policy changes, Lee said.

The council has given owners of the property at 2026 Main Street until May 9 to report on improvements to the residence.

The house was damaged by fire in 2020 and the upper floor was not repaired.

Jessica Sanchez said her family is trying to sell the property and a potential buyer will look at the house this week.
