Former UNC Basketball standout set to make broadcast debut

When the North Carolina men’s basketball team takes to the court for “Live Action” at the Dean Smith Center on Friday, many of the Tar Heels will be making their first appearance as a member of the program.

Off the court however, a former Tar Heel will make his TV debut.

Garrison Brooks, a four-year-old Chapel Hill starter, will be on the call for the preseason showcase event, alongside Kyle Straub and Matt Krause on ACC Network Extra, according to Inside Carolina.

Brooks averaged 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds in a Tar Heel uniform, earning an All-ACC Second-Team selection and being greenlit as the 2020 ACC Preseason Player of the Year- 2021.

With his career-best year as a junior with 16.8 points and 8.5 rebounds, the Lafayette, Alabama native won the ACC’s Most Improved Player award, the third Tar Heel in the story to do so, joining Marcus Paige and Luke Maye.

After a stint with the New York Knicks in the NBA Summer League, Brooks was signed and then cut by the organization late last month.

The former Tar Heel and Mississippi State Bulldog was expected to join the Westchester Knicks, the NBA club’s G-League affiliate for the upcoming season.

In the meantime, Brooks will start a new career on the sidelines, while supporting his alma mater.
