BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) — Saniyah Shelton has signed her letter of intent to pursue her athletic career and play basketball at Eastern Kentucky University.
“It’s a blessing. It’s a dream come true, I always thought about it growing up and coming to sign on paper, it brought tears to my eyes, it’s a blessing.
Shelton says when she made the visit to Richmond, she immediately loved the community that surrounds EKU.
“It’s a wonderful school. When I went there, everyone was wonderful there,” she said. “[I’m] a people person and i just love him. It’s a community there.
His head coach Calvin Head says the Colonels are getting more than just a player.
“Saniyah is perhaps one of the most genuine, giving and selfless young women I have ever met,” Head said. “She’s an exceptional athlete, but she’s an even better, even better young woman. She makes her teammates better. She makes the people around her better. And then she made me better too.
“We work, we work for nine weeks, ten weeks, then we have a scrum next Saturday. We hope to pull it off like we did last year.
Saniyah will begin his final season with the Violets on Dec. 2 against Madisonville North-Hopkins.
